Backpackers
Recently we have started a volunteer program that allows people to apply to volunteer a set amount of hours in return for free accommodation. The tasks can include a variety of things such as cleaning, gardening, wood stacking and so much more and vary depending on what needs done for the day as well as what the volunteer's personal skills and experience include. This is a great opportunity for any person or couple travelling New Zealand and wanting to stay in Hanmer Springs temporarily or longterm, though a minimum of 1 month commitment is required. The hours can be flexible depending on other work commitments. If this is something that interests you, please contact Shalane Hopkins (Volunteer & Fundraising Coordinator).
NOTE: The next current available position is JANUARY 2012

Contra Deals
Adopting the idea of using a barter arrangment between two parties who exchange goods or services without any cash changing hands, the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp has found Contra Deals to be an excellent method of maintaining/updating the camp's facilities and services. With the camp's many buildings and large property area, the on-going projects needing to be completed is endless. Contra Deals are flexible and vary on an individual basis according to the skills being used and what we give in return. For example, a person may do a painting project and in return receive a weekend's stay for them an their family. If you have any practical skills or qualifications that may be of use at the Forest Camp, please contact Shalane Hopkins (Volunteer & Fundraising Coordinator).
Some of the current skills needed at the camp are:
- Painters (outdoor & indoor) - Builders (small building projects) - Log cutters (must be certified to use a chainsaw) - Gardeners (no skills required)
