The Forest Camp has been hosting school camps since 1979, so we can safely say we know the ins and outs of a school camp. Our wealth of experience and our extensive range of accommodation and facilities make us a great affordable choice!
The camp used to be the NZ Men’s Forestry Camp which is what makes us unique! This was then gifted to the community as a trust which then later lead to being a school camp. Over the years we have opened the camp up to the general public and groups to share the great facilities we have here.
Our camp is located 2.5kms from the alpine village of Hanmer Springs, located in the heart of the Hanmer Forest. The camp is located on 10 acres of land, surrounded by beautiful forest and mountains. We are a smoke-free venue, with a variety of accommodation, a large camp ground and five large self-catering kitchens which all have a lounge area.
We also have a fully accessible lodge that is ideal for many schools and groups. Our site also consists of an exciting playground along with large open spaces which can be used for an activity of your choice – thus making us the ideal setting for your camp!
A range of outdoor activities are available on and offsite through our partnership with Activity Hanmer. Activities include mountain biking, rock and tree climbing, orienteering, problem solving, bush skills, overnight camps and tramps. The activities are challenging and stimulating, set within a rigid safety framework and provided by experienced instructors.
Looking for a fully catered camp? No worries! We also work alongside Rusty Carrot who has a variety of Catering options available, allowing you to sit back and relax while all the cooking is done for you!
