The Hanmer Springs Forest Camp has always maintained the perspective that people of all abilities should be allowed to enjoy our facilities. As such, many of our buildings have been designed with accessibility in mind. Whatever your needs are, the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp strives to accommodate you in the best way possible.

Ensor Lodge

Comprising of three wings surrounding a grassy courtyard, the Ensor Lodge is an idealic location to stay a night, weekend or even longer! All of the Family-Style Cabins are well-suited for anyone using a wheelchair as they are an open-plan with a double bed and either 1 or 2 sets of bunks.

Attached to both the Mountain Beech Wing and Sequoia Wing is an accessible toilet/shower facility that is available to use for anyone that has a disability FREE of charge. 

 

                   


Abilities Lodge

This is a 28 bed, self-contained builing that was designed specifically for people with disabilities in mind. It has 5 bedrooms with a combination of double beds, single beds and bunk beds. For those with mobility difficulties, it should be noted that there is a total of 18 lower beds. 2 beds are adjustable hospital style beds.

The lodge has its own kitchen/lounge with a log fire which has been built in an open-plan style, with moveable furniture to adjust according to your accessibility needs. The kitchen sinks and countertops have been designed with people using wheelchairs in mind, allowing one to be able to pull up to the sink and prepare meals or wash dishes. 

The Lodge has 4 wheelchair accessible showers and toilets giving plenty of space and privacy for the whole group!

Attached to either end of the Abilities Lodge is a Self-Contained Unit with bathroom and kitchen, TV and heat pump, both being an open-plan style and wheelchair accessible as well as being inter-connecting to the Lodge.

Kitchen Facilities

We have 4 individual kitchen/ lounge rooms that can be hired out by groups or shared by Camp guests.

Three of these, Reid Kitchen, Maling Kitchen and Big Kitchen are all wheelchair accessible with ramps leading up to the entrances.

General Grounds

The Hanmer Springs Forest Camp has been designed with people with disabilities in mind. Winding around the outer edge of the property is the Papanui Rotary Centennial Trail which is a pathway accessible to people of all abilities.
