Hanmer Springs Forest Camp has always believed people of all abilities should be able to enjoy our facilities. Many of our buildings have been purpose-designed with accessibility front of mind, and our team is always happy to talk through your specific needs before you arrive.

We’re proud to offer discounted rates to all Hāpai Access Card holders and their caregivers.

Fully Certified Hāpai Access Card Business

Recognised, trained, ready to help

We’re a fully certified business on the Hāpai Access Card network. We regularly welcome individuals and groups with disabilities — it’s something we’ve always made a priority. Please contact our staff to discuss your specific needs and how we can accommodate you.

  • Certified assistance dogs are welcome
  • No queuing required — you have your own rooms and lounge spaces
  • Parking directly outside the Self-Contained Units and Abilities Lodge
  • Wheelchair-accessible toilets in family cabins, self-contained units, and the Abilities Lodge
    (Forestry Huts and bunk cabins, including their bathrooms, are not wheelchair accessible)
  • Staff experienced supporting visitors with visual or hearing impairments — and always keen to learn how to do better

Ensor Lodge Hanmer Forest Camp

Ensor Lodge

Three wings around a shared grassy courtyard. Every Family-Style Cabin is open-plan with a double bed plus one or two sets of bunks — well suited to wheelchair users. Both the Mountain Beech and Sequoia Wings have a free accessible toilet/shower attached, fitted with grab rails, a roll-in shower, and a raised toilet.

Ensor Lodge Hanmer Forest Camp

Abilities Lodge

28 beds, purpose-built for accessibility: 18 lower beds, 2 adjustable hospital-style beds, a wheelchair-height kitchen, and 4 wheelchair-accessible showers and toilets. Two interconnecting Self-Contained Units sit at either end.

More than just a getaway

Kitchens & grounds

Kitchen facilities — Four kitchen/lounge rooms are available to hire or share. Reid Kitchen, Maling Kitchen, and Big Kitchen are all wheelchair accessible with ramp access.

Around the grounds — The Papanui Rotary Centennial Trail winds around the edge of the property and is accessible to people of all abilities.

Out and about — Ask our team about accessible pathways through Hanmer Forest, the Thermal Pools, or other activities in town.
